It is fortuitous that Africa's first female Head of State came from West Africa sub-region. And it should not be surprising that the next female Head of State may come from West Africa again even if she hails from Sierra Leone, the former Athens of West Africa.
The unexpected will always continue to happen till the end of time and it is again likely to happen this time round in Sierra Leone. There are several distinguished Sierra Leonean women who could suitably fill that role.
It will be recalled that in our history two women have led political parties with their candidates for the Presidency.
One of these women is highly principled and would not brook any corruption. Such a woman should not easily be discounted. She has held high positions in the governance of this country and if given the chance she could do better.
The prospective head of state of Sierra Leone was very active in student affairs before she formed her political party to contest the country's Presidential and general elections. She played an active role even during the reign of the Junta and the country's civil war. This is not to say that she has not been vacillating between various political parties; a syndrome that has been exhibited by other people who have succeeded to be heads of governments like Sir Winston Churchill of Britain, Dr. Siaka Stevens and Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma. She was a whistle blower in the last government which was one of the factors that led to her sacking.
There has been prediction about this prospective Head of State and she herself is determined to be President of Sierra Leone. Curiously this woman has survived several serious accidents including an air crash which only few people can survive. This points to the fact that her destiny is about to be fulfilled.
Towards the end of her destiny she has taken on a lawsuit along with the APC losing Presidential candidate Dr. Samura Kamara against the tenure of office of the incumbent President. This is a matter that rests with Supreme Court judges as far as the judgment is concerned. It can go against the incumbent resulting in his being unseated. No one knows. In that case Dr. Sylvia Blyden would have made world history by unseating a democratic government by petition in less than one year of its governance.
Fans of Dr. Sylvia Blyden should begin to prepare to congratulate her in advance.
